On the nation’s 77th Independence Day, actor Akshay Kumar received Indian citizenship after years of criticism over his Canadian citizenship.
“Dono Hindustani, dono dil aur citizenship. Akshay Kumar shared the registration document on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wished everyone a happy Independence Day and a Jai Hind.
In a previous interview, Akshay Kumar expressed disappointment about comments made about his “love for the country.”
“To me, India is everything… Everything I have acquired and gained comes from this place. And I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to return the favor. In a conversation with news station Aajtak, Mr. Kumar had observed, “You feel awful when people say things without knowing anything.
He had filed for Indian citizenship in 2019, but the COVID-19 outbreak had caused a delay in the procedure.

Following an interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Kumar’s citizenship in Canada came under discussion.
“I never thought that I should get this passport changed, but now yes, I have applied to get my passport changed and once I get the renounced status from Canada….” he had remarked.
On the job front, Akshay Kumar’s “OMG” 2, in which Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam also appear, was just released in theaters.
